The Best Sushi Restaurants in Portland and Beyond
Eater Portland updated its guide to the best sushi restaurants in Portland and beyond on August 20, 2026, highlighting restaurants that offer outstanding omakase, budget-friendly conveyor belt rolls, nigiri, maki, and sashimi.
The guide notes that Portland has access to high-quality fish and nationally celebrated Japanese food, with its sushi scene ranging from affordable spots such as Fish & Rice and Yoshi’s to nationally recognized restaurants including Zilla Sake, Nodoguro, and Nimblefish.
The map’s August 2026 additions include newcomer Sazanami, Hillsboro favorite Syun Izakaya, and long-standing Portland staple Masu.
Zilla Sake
Zilla Sake opened in 2007 as Portland’s first dedicated sake bar and has developed into a high-end sushi destination under head chef Kate Koo. Its menu includes nigiri, sashimi, and hosomaki, futomaki, and uramaki rolls, using fish and seafood such as Japanese hamachi and Oregon albacore. Highlights include Hokkaido scallops and 21-day dry-aged New Zealand king salmon. The restaurant also serves Oregon-grown wasabi and lobster kaarage. Its two-hour omakase is priced at $150 per person.
Bluefin Tuna & Sushi
Originally from South Korea, Bluefin Tuna & Sushi expanded into Northeast Portland in 2020. The restaurant is known for temari sushi, gunkan-style sushi, and various cuts of bluefin tuna. Its happy hour runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., offering $7 hosomaki rolls and four-piece sets of its signature temari rolls for $8.
Takara Sushi
Takara Sushi serves a variety of rolls, including vegetarian options such as tamago and avocado-cucumber, along with omakase platters featuring chef’s choice nigiri, sashimi, and rolls. Its chirashi bowl features various cuts of fish over rice. Spicy tuna rolls cost $10, while nigiri or sashimi tops out at $6 per order.
Momoyama
Momoyama in the Pearl District offers seared A5 wagyu nigiri, Japanese and California sea urchin, surf clams, spot prawns, and various tuna cuts. Its specialty rolls include the Portland Timber with salmon-topped spicy albacore, cucumber, and avocado. The full omakase starts at $135, while a nigiri and sashimi combo costs $58.
Fish and Rice
Fish and Rice serves torched albacore nigiri and stuffed rolls featuring snow crab and tempura shrimp. Most rolls, nigiri, and sashimi cost between $5 and $10. The restaurant also offers chef’s selection chirashi and moriawase spreads with Alaskan ikura, snow crab, and additions such as Hokkaido uni.
Syun Izakaya
Syun Izakaya in Hillsboro offers sashimi spreads including a 44-piece plate, chef’s choice nigiri, hand rolls, and specialty creations. Its menu also includes an omakase roll prepared by the chef, alongside izakaya dishes such as karaage and okonomiyaki and a sake selection.
Sushi Ichiban
Sushi Ichiban, an Old Town staple, serves conveyor belt sushi with fresh fish, generous portions, salmon nigiri, spicy tuna hand rolls, and scallops. Sushi is delivered around the continuously spinning track behind a toy train engine.
Mirakutei Sushi & Ramen
Mirakutei Sushi & Ramen was originally helmed by Hiro Ikegaya before being purchased by longtime employees and brothers Nicolas and Job Martinez. The restaurant serves Dungeness crab nigiri, bluefin belly sashimi, sweet shrimp, bigeye tuna, hamachi carpaccio, ceviche, and salmon flights. On Friday and Saturday nights, Hiro Ikegaya returns to the sushi bar for limited-seating, reservation-only omakase priced at $125 per person.
Masu Sushi
Masu has remained among Portland’s top sushi establishments for more than 20 years, serving sashimi, nigiri, chirashi bowls, and specialty maki. Its creations include the Rip City with shishito tempura and habanero masago and Death by Sushi with crab, unagi, and salmon. Happy hour offers $20 sashimi assortments, $9 ura maki rolls, and $5 Sapporo.
Nodoguro
Nodoguro is known for intimate, changing kaiseki-grounded tasting menus. Chef Ryan Roadhouse has received the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Northwest and Pacific region. The restaurant’s menus combine Pacific Northwest seasonal ingredients with dishes influenced by themes including Studio Ghibli films and Twin Peaks. Monthly tickets typically cost $250, while an afternoon tea option is available for $150.
Miyamoto
Miyamoto in Montavilla offers casual sushi including nigiri, classic rolls, and Ora king salmon-stuffed handhelds. Regular specials include three-piece albacore nigiri for $9 from Thursday through Sunday and $7 spicy tuna rolls during happy hour. The restaurant also offers an extensive sake selection with flights.
Nimblefish
Nimblefish is an Edomae-style sushi restaurant serving cured and fresh fish as nigiri and sashimi. Its seasonal menu features various curing techniques and fresh fish, much of it sourced from Japan. Omakase costs $125 per person, with à la carte options available Tuesday through Saturday. Co-owner Cory Auger is expected to open another sushi bar, Sushi Fukami, in downtown Portland in 2026.
Yoko’s Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar
Yoko’s has maintained a following for decades with reasonably priced nigiri and elaborate maki. Its menu includes salmon in forms ranging from ikura to skin and smoked salmon, as well as the poki roll with ahi and seared albacore over a cucumber-avocado roll. Other options include the Ruben’s Special with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber and a spicy Thai roll with shrimp, cucumber, broccoli, and peanut sauce.
Yuubi Sushi
Chef Ricky Tam oversees Yuubi Sushi, which uses ingredients from Japan including Hokkaido rice, bluefin tuna, and amberjack. New Zealand king salmon and Japanese fish imports undergo a dry-aging process. The restaurant’s uramaki include the Scott roll with peaches and Ora king salmon and the Tuna Divide with bluefin and pickled radish.
Yoshi’s Sushi
Yoshi Ikeda, a former Bamboo Sushi chef, operates Yoshi’s from a small Multnomah Village cart, serving nigiri and maki. The menu includes innovative rolls, rotating nigiri, occasional hand rolls, and chirashi box specials. Its seared scallop nigiri with yuzu pepper marmalade is a featured item. Yoshi’s currently offers takeout through phone orders only, with no walk-ups.
Kaede
Kaede in Sellwood is operated by two veteran sushi chefs. Its fish, including goldeneye snapper, bluefin, and yellowtail, is flown in fresh from Tokyo’s fish markets. Tasting menus start at $85, making it one of the more reasonably priced premium omakase options in the area.
Sazanami
Sazanami, located in the Beaverton area, opened in summer 2026 and is led by James Beard Award-winning chef Hajime Sato. The 14-seat restaurant approaches sushi through a sustainability lens, working with vetted, responsible purveyors and avoiding at-risk species. It also offers the all-vegan Mori omakase. Three omakase menus are available for $140, $170, and $200, with bespoke sake pairings offered. Reservations are required.
Sakura Yakitori and Sushi
Sakura Yakitori and Sushi serves standard rolls such as spicy tuna and futomaki, alongside specialty rolls including the seared wagyu beef Plains roll and the vegetarian Valley roll with grilled shishitos and zucchini. Seasonal options include the Spring roll with yellowtail, yuzu dressing, and micro cilantro, and the Winter roll with snow crab, apple, scallop, and orange marmalade.
