Robert De Niro’s Nobu Expands in Egypt With New Luxury Hospitality Projects

Robert De Niro and Nobu Hospitality are expanding the luxury brand’s footprint in Egypt through a series of hotel, restaurant and residential developments, strengthening the company’s presence in one of the region’s key hospitality and tourism markets.

The expansion includes Nobu projects in Cairo and on Egypt’s North Coast, with the brand working in partnership with Egyptian real estate developer SODIC. The plans position Nobu across multiple segments of the luxury hospitality market, combining accommodation, dining and branded residences.

One of the developments is Nobu Hotel and Restaurant East Cairo, located in Eastown District New Cairo, known as EDNC. The location is surrounded by luxury boutiques, dining venues and entertainment offerings, as well as The American University in Cairo.

The Cairo expansion forms part of a broader move by Nobu Hospitality to establish a presence across several Egyptian destinations rather than relying on a single location. The brand has also announced plans for Nobu Hotel, restaurant and residences in West Cairo and on the North Coast.

Robert De Niro, who co-founded Nobu Hospitality with Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa and film producer Meir Teper, has described Egypt as a special place. De Niro previously visited the country with family and friends and said he had always looked forward to returning.

For chef Nobu Matsuhisa, the Egyptian expansion also represents an opportunity to introduce his cuisine to a new market and make use of local ingredients. He highlighted the potential of local fish and vegetables while expressing excitement about the country and its culinary possibilities.

The expansion adds another layer to Nobu’s international growth strategy. The brand has developed from a restaurant concept into a broader luxury lifestyle platform spanning hotels, restaurants and residences across multiple markets.

Egypt therefore represents more than an additional restaurant or hotel location for Nobu. The combination of hospitality, dining and residential developments allows the brand to build a wider presence around a single luxury identity while connecting its international positioning with established local real estate and development expertise.

The partnership with SODIC is also central to the Egyptian expansion. By working with a local developer, Nobu can combine its international hospitality identity with local development capabilities and established projects in Cairo and along the North Coast.

The North Coast developments give Nobu access to Egypt’s coastal luxury tourism market, while the Cairo projects provide a presence in the country’s major urban business and lifestyle environment. Together, the locations create a broader geographic footprint for the brand within Egypt.

The strategy reflects Nobu’s evolution from a globally recognized restaurant name into an integrated hospitality and lifestyle brand. Its expansion into Egypt links food and beverage, hotels and residences under the same brand, increasing the number of ways customers can engage with Nobu.

For Egypt’s luxury hospitality market, the arrival of an internationally recognized brand associated with Robert De Niro and chef Nobu Matsuhisa adds another high-profile name to the country’s growing premium tourism and real estate landscape.

The development of multiple Nobu destinations also gives the brand an opportunity to establish a more sustained presence in Egypt rather than operating as a single standalone hospitality concept. The combination of urban and coastal projects creates a platform for continued expansion across different segments of the market.
