New NYC Restaurants, Bars and Cafés Opening in August 2026

New restaurants, bars, and cafés are continuing to open across New York City in August 2026, with new concepts arriving in neighborhoods throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Eater’s latest roundup highlights a range of openings, from Japanese hand rolls and Korean-inspired izakaya to Mongolian dumplings, vegan ramen, British-Indian steakhouse fare, and Asian-inspired ice cream.

New August Openings

In Union Square, Sushi Aozora launched Te No Te, a hand roll pop-up operating inside the same storefront. The concept offers a more affordable alternative to Sushi Aozora’s omakase, with temaki sets priced at approximately $23 to $55 and individual rolls ranging from $6 to $22.

In Chinatown, JoyFu opened on July 24 with a menu focused on xiao long bao. Its offerings include six varieties, including black truffle and crab roe, and the restaurant is running a buy-one-get-one-free soup dumpling promotion for dine-in customers through August 31.

Mongolian Momo King moved from a food cart to a permanent storefront in the East Village on August 5. The restaurant serves steamed and fried momos, known as buuz in Mongolia, along with fried khuushuur patties and other Mongolian dishes.

In Greenpoint, Lucky Creamery opened in the former Euro Chemist Pharmacy space on August 1. Its flavors include black sesame, ube brownie, mango sticky rice, Thai tea, oolong white peach, lychee rose, and pandan, alongside classic and vegan options. The shop also serves smoothies, coffee, fruit teas, and matcha drinks.

Restaurants Across Manhattan

Elder opened in Hudson Yards on August 6 as a British steakhouse with Indian influences from chef Sujan Sarkar. The menu includes dishes such as chicken liver choux buns with spiced cherry chutney, caviar-topped crumpets, Berkshire pork rib chop with vindaloo masala, tandoor chicken roulade with tikka masala, and beet Wellington.

Kodachaya opened in Koreatown on July 31 as a Korean-inspired izakaya with multiple food stations serving soups and noodles, Korean street food, fried dishes, grilled skewers, and sashimi. Customers order through kiosks, while soju and other Korean beverages are available through self-service stations.

On the Lower East Side, Redwhite Boneless Ramen, a vegan ramen and sushi concept that originated in Japan and later expanded to Boston, has begun its New York City debut. The restaurant is scheduled to fully open by August 20, with limited hours and menus available beforehand.

Soho’s Broome Hotel opened Broome Restaurant and Bar on July 31. The French Mediterranean restaurant serves dishes including a bruschetta trio with tuna sashimi, foie gras, and caviar, as well as chicken paillard with chermoula, pine nuts, and an orange-fennel salad.

On the Upper West Side, Chikara opened on August 6 as a high-end Japanese restaurant led by co-owners with backgrounds at Sushi of Gari.

In Williamsburg, Ritual Bar opened inside Matchaful on August 5, offering Japanese tea culture experiences, classes, and tastings.

Additional August Openings

Eater’s August 5 update also highlighted Jules Pizza in Bensonhurst, Apapachó in Park Slope, Thai Niyom in Astoria, Guac N’ Bubble in College Point, Rossa Cafe in Koreatown, Bernie and Herb’s in Union Square, Goop Kitchen’s first New York City storefront on the Upper East Side, and the return of Mary’s Fish Camp at a new West Village address.
