Monza

Nestled just northeast of Milan along the Lambro River, Monza—originally the ancient Modicia—rose to prominence under the Lombard Queen Theodelinda in the 6th century when she established a royal chapel and monastery here. Today, Monza is known for its historic cathedral housing the legendary Iron Crown, the regal Royal Villa, and the famed Autodromo Nazionale, home to the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.

Top Things to Do

1. Duomo of Monza & Museum of Treasures

Visit the Gothic-style Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, famed for its green-and-white marble facade. Inside, admire the Teodolinda Chapel with Renaissance frescoes, and view the Iron Crown, used historically to crown emperors.

Stroll through the neoclassical Royal Villa built by Giuseppe Piermarini (1777–80), once a regal summer residence. Its adjacent Royal Gardens, blending French formal and English landscape styles, cover 40 ha and are home to historic trees and sculptural features.

3. Parco di Monza

At ~688 ha, Monza Park is Europe’s largest enclosed urban park. Enjoy cycling or walking trails, bridges over the Lambro River, boats, and outdoor relaxation. The park also contains the legendary Monza Circuit.

4. Autodromo Nazionale di Monza ("Temple of Speed")

Home to the historic Italian Grand Prix since 1922, this iconic circuit offers guided tours of the stands, pits, podium, and a motorsport museum showcasing vintage cars and racing history. Visitors can even attempt driving experiences on-site.
