Kropyvnytskyi (formerly Yelisavetgrad/Kirovohrad) is the administrative center of Kirovohrad Oblast. Founded in 1754 and nicknamed “Little Paris” for its elegant pre‑Soviet architecture, it sits along the Inhul River and blends history, arts, and a serene provincial life

Fortress of St. Elizabeth

A rare star-shaped earthen fortress built in 1754, one of only ten in Europe. Its six-pointed layout and historic legacy make it the city’s defining landmark .

Historical Churches

  • Cathedral of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin (Greek Church): stone church with 19th‑century murals and bell tower, financed by the Greek community 

  • Transfiguration Cathedral: an elegant wooden church from 1813 with Corinthian columns, home to the revered Mother of God icon
