Cherkasy

Cherkasy lies in central Ukraine on the high right bank of the Dnipro River (created by the Kremenchuk Reservoir), approximately 200 km southeast of Kyiv. First mentioned in the late 13th century, it played a central role in the rise of the Ukrainian Cossacks and remains the administrative and cultural core of Cherkasy Oblast with around 270,000 residents
