Azemmour (also spelled Azammur) is a peaceful coastal town on Morocco’s Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Oum Er‑Rbia River, about 75 km southwest of Casablanca (population ~40 000)  Its name comes from the Berber word for “wild olive tree” . Originally a Phoenician and Roman site, it later fell under Portuguese control from 1513–1541, leaving behind fortifications, a kasbah, and medina walls

Azemmour is known for its quiet charm, artistic medina, riverside scenery, and historic architecture blending Moroccan and Portuguese styles . It hosts the Moussem of Sufi saint Moulay Bouchaib each year, drawing pilgrims and culture lovers alike
