Someone Already Wrecked a 2027 Rivian R2 After Just 110 Miles

A nearly new 2027 Rivian R2 has already been crashed after traveling just 110 miles (177 km) and is now being offered through a salvage auction.

The electric SUV is a Launch Green Rivian R2 Performance Launch Package, and its arrival at auction comes as demand for the new model remains strong. Rivian opened the R2 configurator on its retail website at the end of May, but customers ordering a new vehicle today are expected to wait until 2027 for delivery.

Front-End and Suspension Damage

The most visible damage is concentrated on the passenger-side front fender. The panel is crumpled inward, exposing a cracked fender liner, while the outer wheel-arch trim has detached and is lying beside the 21-inch wheel.

Although the exterior damage initially appears relatively limited, the IAA salvage auction listing also identifies suspension damage. Multiple airbags have deployed, indicating that the R2 suffered more significant damage than its exterior appearance alone suggests.

The vehicle’s condition could make repairs expensive, particularly given the potential repair costs associated with damaged Rivian vehicles.

656 HP and All-Wheel Drive

The crashed vehicle appears to be the R2 Performance Launch Package, currently the only R2 version being delivered.

The model starts at $57,990 and uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 656 hp (489 kW / 665 PS) and 609 lb-ft (825 Nm) of torque. Rivian says the R2 can accelerate from 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and has a range of 330 miles (531 km).

More affordable and slower R2 variants are scheduled to arrive later in 2026 and in 2027.
